Dental Onlays in Ealing

Dental onlays are larger in size than dental inlays, and are used to replace one or more decayed cusps, or bumps, on the tooth’s chewing surface.

Do you want the perfect smile but don’t know what to do about cavities or old fashioned fillings that are noticed when you talk? Don’t worry, you have options. Dental onlays are an extremely effective dental technology that repairs cavities and bumps in your tooth’s surface with a hard-wearing and long-lasting onlay. Contact the Washington Center for Dentistry to find out more.

At the Washington Center for Dentistry we have dedicated professionals who can assess your teeth and give you the best solution. If it’s determined that you need onlays that’s good news for you. Onlays are normally used for larger cavities. They are made from porcelain or resin and are extremely effective and long-lasting. With proper care and maintenance, dental onlays can last up to thirty years.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS

If you have a cavity in one of your molars your options are a filling or a crown. But there’s also a third option, an onlay. If installed correctly a filling can be effective. It can protect your tooth from deterioration and strengthen it at the same time. Similarly, a crown has its advantages, however, unlike a filling or inlay, more tooth is removed than necessary causing weakness.

Having a crown fitted can actually weaken your tooth and cause issues in the future, similarly, a large cavity filling may not be the best long term solution for you and can lead to cracked or broken teeth. An onlay, however, gives you the best of all worlds. It can repair a damaged tooth and protect it from deterioration. It also gives you that winning smile you’ve wanted back for years.

INDIRECT VS DIRECT ONLAYS

There is a distinction between “direct” and “indirect” onlays that’s good to know about before you attend the dental center. A direct onlay is straightforward. First decay is removed, then the tooth is filled with a soft composite resin. The dentist takes a picture of the tooth using advanced imaging to create the perfect onlay.

An “indirect Onlay” is slightly different. With these an impression of the tooth is taken first and sent for analysis. Meanwhile, any tooth decay is removed and the cavity is filled. When the onlay is ready, the filling is removed and the onlay is cemented on.
